BLS for Healthcare Providers

The new 2015 American Heart Association guidelines have been released and students who register for a BLS class on or after April 1, 2011 will learn the new C-A-B guidelines.  The BLS for Healthcare Provider course is approximately 4 hours for the Initial course and approximately 3.5 hours for the Renewal course and may be shorter depending on the number of students in each class. We offer one-to-one instruction as well at no additional cost. This course is geared toward EMS personnel, physician assistants, nurses, doctors and others in the healthcare industry. Your American Heart Association card is good for two years. Prior to the completion of the class you will take a 25 question multiple choice test and practical skills exam. Upon successful completion you will receive your new BLS for Healthcare Provider card, there's no waiting period.  The BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual is not included in the cost of the course.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to do the following:

  • Describe the links in the 2015 AHA Chain of Survival
  • Describe the steps of CPR
  • Perform 1 & 2 person rescuer CPR for adults, children and infants
  • Give mouth-to-mouth, mouth-to-barrier device and use of a bag-valve-mask
  • Relieve a foreign body airway obstruction in a responsive or unresponsive victim of any age
  • Know how and when to activate the Emergency Response System
  • Know how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Recognize the 5 major emergencies in adults
