Pediatric First Aid
The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid course without CPR is approximately 3 hours and may be shorter depending on the number of students in each class. We offer one-to-one instruction as well. This course is for anyone who wants to learn how to respond to child illnesses and emergencies like medical emergencies and injury emergencies. Optional topics available to learn are asthma care training for child care providers, eye injuries, fever, bites and suspected abuse. This course is for anyone who wants to learn Pediatric First Aid like parents, nannies, daycare providers or people who are required to have this certification for work. Your American Heart Association card is good for two years. Your skills are evaluated as you practice during the course with the instructor. There is a book (which is not included in the cost of the class) called Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid Student Workbook.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to do the following:
- Learn how to prevent injuries with children
- How to interact with children of all agesn
- Identify and administer first aid for bleeding, drowning, diabetic emergencies, broken bones, poison emergencies, mouth and tooth injuries, burns, seizures, heat stroke, hypothermia, and frostbite
- Recognize life threatening emergencies
- Manage medical and injury emergencies
- Relieve a foreign body airway obstruction in a responsive or unresponsive child or adult
- Know how and when to activate the Emergency Response System
